Are you researching diaspora-related topics? Join us at Vabamu on 26 August, 11:00–17:00 for a hands-on zine-making workshop.

What is a zine?
A zine is a small, independent publication that can take almost any form the creator imagines. Using ink, paper, scissors, and glue, you’ll experiment with creative ways to communicate your research beyond traditional academic formats.

This workshop is an opportunity to transform your research, whether completed thesis, work-in-progress or proposal stages, into your own zine while exploring how to make your work more accessible to non-academic audiences. Through the process, you’ll also have the chance to reflect on your topic from different perspectives and develop new ways of presenting your ideas.

The day will start with an introduction by Vabamu’s incoming CEO, Maarja Merivoo-Parro, who has dealt extensively with the Estonian diaspora both within academia and in the wider public sphere, through everything from exhibitions to film-making.

Following a short introduction to zine-making, you’ll spend the rest of the day creating your own zine. All materials will be provided, and lunch is included. Limited amount of funding is available to help cover travel expenses. The level of support provided will depend on the number of applicants.
