Vabamu

Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom is located in the center of Tallinn, right by Toompea. The museum’s permanent exhibition Freedom Without Borders introduces the history of Estonia during and after the Soviet and Nazi occupations, arriving at the era of restoration of independence. The focus on restoring and preserving freedom is central to Vabamu.

Visitors are guided through the exhibition by an e-guide in English, Russian, German, Latvian, Lithuanian, Finnish, French and Spanish. The e-guide helps visitors connect with the personal stories of those who experienced the historical events covered throughout the exhibition. KGB Prison Cells

The KGB prison cells are located in the old town of Tallinn, at the address Pagari 1. For almost half a century, this building was the headquarters of the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR, or NKVD, later known as the KGB, and the basements were used as prison cells. This building was the place where criminals tried to break the spiritual backbone of Estonians.

The exhibition of the KGB prison cells Locked Up Stories: The KGB in Estonia presents the crimes committed in this building.

The permanent exhibition is in Estonian and English.
