In 2025, Vabamu will open a new major exhibition that summarizes the history of the Estonian diaspora through the 20th century to the present day, creating bridges between communities around the world.
What?
Estonians have always moved around the world: after all, Hemingway already said that there are at least two Estonians in every port. Estonians have gone against their will, but also voluntarily: to look for the promised land somewhere far away, to escape from occupiers and repressions, to look for opportunities for self-determination and fulfillment in a more tolerant environment.
Who?
Curators: Ede Schank Tamkivi, Martin Vaino, Terje Toomistu
Partners: public and private sector and Estonian communities abroad
When?
The exhibition about global Estonians will open at the beginning of the summer of 2025, before the song festival and ESTO days.
How?
To make the exhibition a success, we need the help of all Estonians around the world. Have you come from Estonia, but now live elsewhere or have you moved back to Estonia? Or maybe your mother, uncle or grandfather once lived outside of Estonia?
Send us a photo of your Estonia and describe in a few sentences how your family, friends and hometown represent Estonia. That way, your story can also become part of the exhibition of global Estonians!
