2025 internship opportunities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
Stanford Global Studies Internship Program offers placements at Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom (Tallinn, Estonia), Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies (University of Tartu, Estonia), FinEst Centre for Smart Cities (Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia), Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (Tallinn, Estonia) and at HackMotion (Riga, Latvia), Riga Stradiņš University’s China Studies Centre (Riga, Latvia) and The Baltic Security Foundation (Riga, Latvia). Each of these organizations has experience in hosting Stanford interns and is looking forward to working with the students again.
This year, the Stanford Global Studies Internship Program also launches a new internship opportunity at the Latvian Strategy and Economic Research in Riga. LaSER is an independent, non-partisan, privately financed think tank that develops innovative and evidence-based policy ideas and political initiatives supporting the development of a prosperous, democratic and secure Latvian society and state embedded in the European union (EU) and NATO.
In 2025 Freeman Spogli Institute Global Policy Internships offers placements in the International Center for Defense and Security (Tallinn, Estonia) and Geopolitics and Security Studies Center (Vilnius, Lithuania).
When chosen for an internship in the Baltics, students can participate in a program of events and activities organized by Vabamu. For example, in the summer of 2024, the interns visited museums and governmental agencies in Tallinn, Riga, and Tartu, met with local diplomats and U.S. Embassy staff, learned how to cook local food, participated in 4th of July celebrations with locals and even went hiking on an island in North Estonia.
More information about the 2025 internship opportunities can be found on the Stanford Global Studies and Freeman Spogli Institute webpages. The deadline to apply for the internships is January 26, 2025.
