On the morning of February 24th, we will open Vabamu in the early hours, so that you can come directly after the National Flag Hoisting Ceremony to our museum to get to know and feel Estonian people`s stories. This year, in addition to our permanent exhibition “Freedom Without Borders”, it is possible to visit the temporary exhibition “Defending Freedom: Estonian Civil Society in the Russo-Ukrainian War” and participate in guided tours excursions and workshops.

Program

Guided Tours:

  • 9:30–10:30 Permanent exhibition tour in Estonian
  • 14:00–15:00 Permanent exhibition tour in Russian
  • 14:00–15:00 Curator’s tour of “Defending Freedom” exhibition in Estonian

Workshops:

  • 10:00–15:00 Vabamu Workshop
Create your own symbol of freedom! In our workshop, you can craft badges inspired by historical insignias from our collection. Additionally, you can build your own Tall Hermann tower using recycled materials—a symbol that has carried the meaning of Estonia’s independence and freedom throughout history.
  • 10:00–15:00 Pirita Volunteer Maritime Rescue Workshop
The Pirita Volunteer Maritime Rescue organization, Watergratt Pirita MTÜ, was founded in 2014 and operates in two main areas: coordinating and participating in maritime rescue operations and enhancing safety levels in Tallinn Bay, particularly in the Pirita area. At Vabamu, volunteer maritime rescuers will conduct a workshop where participants can learn about resuscitation and gain valuable knowledge on maritime rescue and water safety.

11:00–11:30 Performance by Vox Populi mixed choir, conducted by Janne Fridolin

13:30–14:00 Opening of the “Kodu” installation by the Russian Theatre

Throughout the day, you can also enjoy our café, a board game corner, and a birthday wishes wall for the Republic of Estonia!
