34 years ago, on August 20, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia made the historic decision to restore our national independence—a moment still vividly remembered by many. The freedom regained that day must be cherished and celebrated. Join us at Vabamu for a special family day filled with engaging activities for visitors of all ages!
Special guided tour with Jaak Juske: “Crime and Punishment” in Tallinn Old Town 13:00–14:00 (the tour is in Estonian)
This historical walk through Tallinn’s Old Town uncovers places that tell stories of freedom—and its absence. We’ll talk about fear, punishment, and crime as forces that have shaped our city and nation through the centuries. We’ll also reflect on the era of occupations and the high cost of regained freedom.
The tour begins in front of the former KGB prison cells (Pagari 1/Pikk 59) where tickets will be checked, and ends in front of Vabamu.
A ticket must be purchased in advance from here.
All tour participants can visit the Vabamu permanent exhibition for free on the same day by showing their ticket at the museum desk.
