You are welcome to join with us in celebrating A Day for Estonians in the World, which will be broadcast live from Vabamu.
The focus of this year’s programme will be on Estonian communities abroad in videos. The event is being organised as part of the Global Estonian Programme of the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with Vabamu and the Estonian Worldwide Youth Network.
During the
day you will get to see the first clips from the collection of films to which
we are currently adding. We are gathering Super-8 recordings of get-togethers,
birthdays, weddings and other important occasions being celebrated by Estonians living abroad that show how national traditions and culture were upheld in
communities abroad during the years of Soviet occupation. We encourage all Estonians living abroad to rifle through their old films so as to share their
memories with us in digitalised form. A selection of the films will be shown on
ETV2 in a series called 8 mm ELU (‘8-mm LIFE’) and stored in Vabamu’s
archives. More detailed information can be found here.
There will
be live crosses to Estonian communities in Sweden, Canada, Germany and other places during the event.
