34 years ago, on August 20, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia made the historic decision to restore our national independence\u2014a moment still vividly remembered by many. The freedom regained that day must be cherished and celebrated. Join us at Vabamu for a special family day filled with engaging activities for visitors of all ages!<\/p>\n

Special guided tour with Jaak Juske: \u201cCrime and Punishment\u201d in Tallinn Old Town 13:00\u201314:00 (the tour is in Estonian)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This historical walk through Tallinn\u2019s Old Town uncovers places that tell stories of freedom\u2014and its absence. We’ll talk about fear, punishment, and crime as forces that have shaped our city and nation through the centuries. We\u2019ll also reflect on the era of occupations and the high cost of regained freedom.<\/p>\n

The tour begins in front of the former KGB prison cells (Pagari 1\/Pikk 59) where tickets will be checked, and ends in front of Vabamu.
\nA ticket must be purchased in advance from here<\/a>.
\nAll tour participants can visit the Vabamu permanent exhibition for free on the same day by showing their ticket at the museum desk.<\/p>\n

Remixing Songs of the Singing Revolution<\/strong>
\nDuring Estonia\u2019s Singing Revolution, patriotic songs became powerful tools of unity and resistance. In this creative workshop, you can remix some of these iconic tunes using modern tools\u2014no prior experience needed!
\nThe workshop is led by DJ Tom Lilienthal and Ivo Lille, Vabamu\u2019s executive director.<\/p>\n

Share your memory of August 20, 1991<\/strong>
\nOn the museum\u2019s second floor, a large white poster invites you to write down your personal memory of this historic day\u2014or read what others have shared. Every story matters!<\/p>\n
